WHAT IS GROUPER?
Grouper is a saltwater fish that is part of the same family as sea bass. Red grouper is a popular type of grouper valued for its availability, taste, and size. Groupers are found in temperate waters from the Mid-Atlantic states down to Florida, as well as South America, Central America, and the Gulf of Mexico.
WHAT DOES GROUPER TASTE LIKE?
Grouper has a mild flavor that lands somewhere in between bass and halibut. The flavor of the grouper depends on size, location, and species. Red grouper is known to be sweeter than black grouper and is typically a bit easier to find. Cooked grouper has a moist and firm but flakey texture and the meat does not contain any bones.
HOW TO COOK GROUPER
Grouper is an extremely versatile fish that can be fried, grilled, baked, roasted, or even used in chowder or soup. One of the great parts about grouper is that it is hard to mess it up! Grouper can be overcooked and still remain moist.
