You’ll recognize Sockeye Salmon by its silver body with a bluish back. Its flesh is a brilliant, deep red and is extremely lean and firm. You’ll find its flavor one of the most pronounced of all Salmon varieties.
Sockeye Salmon is sometimes called “Red Salmon” because it turns a striking red when spawning. The name actually comes from the Pacific Coast indigenous word “Suk-Kegh,” which means “Red Fish.”
Because the flesh of Sockeye Salmon is so firm, it lends itself beautifully to grilling. We recommend marinating it briefly with bold flavored herbs and seasonings beforehand. You may also broil or bake it with like seasonings, and enjoy.
Sockeye Salmon is an excellent source of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E and protein, as well as a good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Iron and Calcium.
