The word “gravlax” comes from the Swedish word for “trench” (grav) and “salmon” (lax). Its roots come from the former practice of burying the salmon in salt in a hole in the ground.

Thaw your frozen Gravlax in the refrigerator overnight. Then slice it thinly and serve it on any crispbread with a creamy dill and mustard sauce. We also like it open-faced on a hearty brown bread, served with a dollop of sour cream.
