Can I visit and purchase seafood from the market?

Yes, the market is open to the public and you are able to purchase seafood. The most up to date details can be found by calling (718) 378-2356.

Here is an overview of how it works.

Typical hours:
Monday - Friday: 2:00 AM - 7:00 AM
Saturday - Sunday: CLOSED

Fulton Fish Market
800 Food Center Drive
Bronx, NY 10474

Upon arrival you’ll pay an entry fee at the security gate. This may change over time but is typically between $5 and $20 depending on the size of your vehicle. When entering you’ll park in the employee parking lot just to the right upon entering. There are six pedestrian entry tunnels clearly marked A, B, C, D, E, F. When entering the Market all buyers are to stay within the white lined sidewalks on either side of the Market. Pedestrians need to be cautious of forklifts that move throughout the Market loading and unloading goods. The Market temperature is always between 38-40°F so visitors should wear warm clothes and boots.

Seafood product availability, conditions, pricing, fabrication and packaging options vary by vendor. We recommend buyers arrive before 5am for best overall supply availability. Product will be purchased directly from one of the vendors in the market. Cash is the preferred payment method but most vendors accept credit cards as well.

How do I contact your customer service team?

Visit our Contact Us page to find a convenient way to contact us and see our standard customer service hours.

When will I receive my order?

We deliver all of our orders via Federal Express. Select your shipping date at checkout and we will be sure to deliver your product fresh and ready to enjoy. Most orders will arrive by 12pm local time but can occur up until 8pm and in uncommon cases, could encounter a potential delivery delay.

Why can't I get delivery TOMORROW?

In short, because your fish hasn't even been landed yet. M-F the freshest catch arrives at the Fulton Fish Market by midnight and is sold by 7am to some of the best restaurants in the world...AND YOU! Once you place your order, our fishmongers personally head out into the market at 1am to select your fish from the latest catch. As an example, if you are shopping on Wednesday, the first available delivery day will be on Friday even though we ship overnight. Here's why... the product arrives at the market late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning > We hand select and cut your fish > We ship your fish on Thursday > It ships overnight and arrives to you on Friday > Enjoy!

Why are deliveries only available on certain days?

Because we want to ensure you receive the best quality and ensure you have access to the widest variety of seafood. The Fulton Fish Market operates Monday - Friday between 1am - 7am EST, so any fresh product delivered to you on a Monday would have come out of the water and to the market the prior week. That's plenty fresh for most seafood vendors, but not for us.

Do you deliver to Hawaii or Alaska?

We currently only deliver to the continental US, and do not deliver to Alaska and Hawaii.

Do you deliver internationally?

We do not currently deliver internationally.

Do you deliver to PO Boxes?

We are unable to deliver to PO Boxes or FPO or APO addresses.

The gel packs are food safe, non-toxic and can be consistently refrozen and reused. They can also be opened and used to water house plants. The plastic should then be thrown away. We are working on finding a film that is recyclable.

If your item is shipped with dry ice, please be careful to not touch the dry ice with bare hands because contact can cause severe cold burns and frostbite. Instead, use thick gloves or tongs to remove the ice, and let it evaporate outside or in a well-ventilated area. Keep it away from children and pets. Do not put dry ice in tightly closed containers or down a drain.

If you do not see any dry ice remaining, then it has evaporated (dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide) but that doesn't necessarily mean your shipment is unsafe. Check if your seafood is still cold to the touch and contact us if you feel that your shipment did not arrive in good condition.

The corrugated box is also biodegradable and recyclable. Here is some more information on why we believe corrugated is a great choice!

How does my order stay cold and fresh?

Our liner keeps the cold air in and warm air out. The frozen gel packs are used to keep your seafood cool and fresh. The combination of the liner, gel pack and cardboard box is designed to keep your seafood at the optimal temperature and prevent your fresh seafood from freezing. Shipments with dry ice will remain frozen during transit and will arrive frozen. To ensure the product arrives in perfect condition we conduct a variety of testing with different shipment lengths and different external temperatures.

If your order contains ONLY frozen products, your order will be shipped with dry ice and arrive frozen. If your order contains a mix of frozen and non-frozen products, your order will be shipped with gel packs and arrive partially frozen or thawed and cool to the touch.

What is the Freshness Guarantee?

It is all part of our Fulton Guarantee. We stand behind our best-in-class products with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Any issues? Drop us a line and we’ll make it right.

-We hand-select, inspect and pack your seafood in order to ensure premium quality and safety.
-Our fresh products are hand-cut to order.
-We only work with the best and we cut out the middlemen to get our fresh products to you several days fresher than elsewhere and work closely with our suppliers to ensure that your seafood is handled with the utmost care from the ocean to your table.

Can I modify my order after it is placed?

As long as your modification comes in the day before the order is to be shipped out, while our team is online, our customer service team will do their best to make the requested changes to your order. Visit the Contact Us page for our team's hours and contact information.

What if an item is UNAVAILABLE?

If you have elected to receive substitutions (see shipping section of checkout), on rare occasions when product is not available in the market or not of sufficient quality (most commonly due to weather), our fishmongers will select the best available substitute based on taste, texture and cooking attributes. If a substitute is available we will notify you when the order ships, and the price will be adjusted if the substituted item is less expensive than your original item.

If our fishmongers are aware of availability issues in advance or your order shipping, our Customer Experience team will contact you to review your options. In the event that last-minute changes occur, we will not be able to contact you proactively because this process occurs between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM EST each day.

If an adequate substitution is not available - or if you have elected to not receive substitutions - your order will ship without the unavailable item(s) and a refund will be issued.

How do I track my order?

Our orders are generally shipped via Federal Express. Once your order has been shipped, you will receive an email with the tracking number for your order.

Our seafood is very fresh and will store fabulously in the refrigerator overnight prior to your event (see storage guidelines).

If you have any questions or need any additional assistance don't hesitate to contact us.

What is your return policy?

We want to make sure you are happy with your order. Read our refund policy here. Please contact us with your order number. Our team will ask you about your order, and may request photos of the products/box, so please hold on to all packaging and products.

What if there is an issue with my order?

We’re sorry to hear that. If there is an issue with your order, please contact us.

Can I FREEZE my fresh items?

Yes! Items that are arriving fresh (as noted on the product page and your order confirmation) have never been frozen and may be put in the freezer in the same packaging in which it is received. If you're planning to freeze any products in your order, we recommend that you put them in the freezer immediately upon receipt. Follow our guide on how to freeze shellfish here to learn the best ways to freeze shellfish.

Can I re-freeze product that has thawed?

Yes, but it depends. If products thaw in cold temperatures they can be refrozen but if products thaw in warm temperatures (>40°F) they should not be refrozen. Here is some additional guidance from the USDA on this topic. This typically means that it is safe to refreeze products that have thawed in a refrigerator but not products that have thawed at room temperature or been quick thawed under cold water. This applies to raw seafood and seafood that has been cooked. You can also re-freeze products that have been partially thawed. You should also not refreeze products that have thawed in a vacuum sealed package or otherwise state that they should be kept frozen on the packaging. If these products are thawed in cold temperatures they can be consumed within a couple of days but not refrozen.

Another consideration is the impact on quality and texture after refreezing. The level of impact depends on the item, how long the product has been thawed out for and your preferences. For example, if your seafood has already been in the refrigerator for 2-3 days it is reaching the end of it's shelf life and re-freezing it will only further degrade the quality. We also do not recommend re-freezing items like super frozen seafood that is meant for sushi.

In general, we find that customers prefer fresh seafood whenever possible and encourage you to start by exploring our large selection of fresh seafood! We are also fans of frozen product since it allows us to offer items year round that are not available fresh, keep more seafood readily available at home and offer a lower priced alternative in some areas.

As always, please reach out if you have additional questions. Our experts are ready to answer all of your questions and concerns.

Update delivery address info
Update billing info
Cancel your subscription

Can I add one-time items or change the items in my subscription?

Yes! Log in to your account and under Subscriptions, click Add Product to add one-time or recurring items to your subscription. You should make all changes to your subscription from the Account dashboard. Do not check out with a new subscription order, as they may not be combined with your existing subscription order and you may receive 2 separate shipments. Make sure your subscription order is still above $75 after you make the changes you want.

I’m trying to set up subscriptions with different frequencies (e.g. monthly and weekly). Why am I getting charged multiple times for the delivery fee?

Apologies, this is a known issue we are working on fixing. We recommend that you check out with subscriptions of only 1 frequency (e.g. all monthly items), so that you are not charged the delivery fee more than once. If you would like to set up subscriptions of different frequencies, please do so by logging into your account, and follow the instructions above to Add Product to your subscription.

I'm having trouble setting skipping part of my order, or would like to stagger different items in different shipments. How do I do this?

Please contact Customer Service and we will assist you.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel any time by logging in to your account, however we offer convenient ways to simply skip shipments, if you are going out of town temporarily.

By subscribing to Fulton Fish Market's subscription service, you have confirmed that you accept our Terms of Service. Your membership will automatically renew on a recurring basis, at which time your credit card will be charged automatically for the subscription products, including applicable shipping and handling fees, until you cancel your membership. You may cancel your membership any time by logging in to your account, selecting Subscriptions, then clicking Cancel next to the item.

Occasionally, you will find one of our fresh, delicious and healthy seafood selections out of stock or out of season. Sometimes the fish simply aren’t biting! Other reasons why the item might be out of stock include but are not limited to weather related issues that prevents boats from going out, logistics issues that prevent an item from arriving to the market as scheduled, seafood that is not up to our quality standards or that there is more demand then expected.

Why do some products have large size ranges and what can I expect to receive?

Most of our products are available in a relatively small size range. We also continuously update our site in order to reflect the likely ranges that we can promise on a consistent basis.

But, we do have products with larger size ranges. The primary reason for this is because we are providing you with the freshest catch and in many instances we have not even received the product by the time you place the order. Since we are dealing with animals that come in all shapes and sizes and not manufactured goods where the size can be closely controlled we don't always know what the fishermen will catch and what will be available on a given day. If you placed several orders for the same item you can expect to receive items that span the size range listed on our product pages. Some will be on the low end of the range, some in the middle and some on the high end of the range. You may see some variability within the order as well.

You may be wondering what causes some of the larger ranges and there are usually reasons specific to each species or cut. However, some general reasons for the size ranges relate to the activity of the fish, the fishermen, the season, the catch location and environment, the consistency of supply, the size grading process and the fabrication process.

Fish activity and the fishermen:
Fish within a species tend to have a certain natural size range and fish within those species tend to school according to size. There are also regulations related to the size of fish that are allowed to be caught. These factors along with the location and time of year all influence what is available and what is caught. Farmed fish tend to be more consistent in size because there is more control over the development process and when they are harvested.

Purchasing and fabricating:
Fish will be often be graded according to size ranges but different species are typically graded with varying ranges and not all sizes grades are always available. On our site we list the size range that we have consistent access to and update those ranges as things change. Whole fish and whole side fillets will have larger size ranges whereas our portions will have smaller size ranges because we can cut these from the whole side fillet to the specification listed on the site. Many frozen products typically have more consistent sizing because they are often fabricated by a machine. Our fresh products are typically fabricated by hand.

The FDA recommends a minimum of 8oz of seafood per week. A serving of seafood is considered 4oz. Keep in mind that as product cooks it will lose some of its weight.

When planning for events it's helpful to keep the following rule of thumb in mind. Each adult will typically consume about 1 lb of food total and children will consume about 1/2 lb. Generally, people will consume a bit more during evening events. How much seafood you purchase will depend on what else you are serving. For seafood entrées we recommend about 8oz of product (before cooking) per person and for appetizers we recommend about 4oz of product (before cooking) per person. For whole fish this equates to about 1 lb per person since there will be some portions of it that typically are not consumed.

Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding mothers and parents and caregivers feeding children 2 years and older can make informed choices when it comes to fish that are nutritious and safe to eat by following FDA published guidance here. In general, they recommend that these groups eat 8-12oz of a variety of seafood each week due to it's fantastic health benefits and the wide selection of low mercury options. Check out the link to see a list of many of those low mercury options and some where consumption should be limited or avoided for those groups. When consuming seafood caught by friends and family in local waters, it is best to check local advisories.

I have a shellfish allergy. Is it safe for me to purchase non-shellfish from your site?

Before making any decisions it is best to consult with your doctor. Here is information on our process to help you make an informed decision.

We process shellfish (both crustaceans and mollusks) in our facility. We process our shellfish in a separate room and with separate equipment than what is used for our finfish. Once the shellfish and finfish are packed they are located in the same room for order packing and shipping.

What safety regulations and standards does your seafood and operation adhere to?

Not only is seafood one of the healthiest options for your diet but according to the CDC, seafood is one of the lowest contributors to foodborne illness in the United States. There are several reasons for this.

We are passionate about ensuring our seafood is safe for you and your family to enjoy. We implement our own practices, maintain meticulous records and gladly comply with several regulations to ensure you have a great experience!

Regulating bodies that we comply with and follow guidance from include but are not limited to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), New York State Department of Agriculture, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and various state and federal agencies that manage seafood caught in their waters.

In addition, we only purchase the highest quality seafood and closely inspect all seafood we purchase, cut, pack and ship and work closely with suppliers to ensure they do the same. For more details on how we pack and ship your order check out the "My Order" section of our FAQs. For safe handling at home, we have put together seafood storage and handling guidelines for your reference.

What is sushi and how can I purchase seafood that may be eaten raw?

Sushi is a simple food with complex flavor and devotees that span the globe. But, what is sushi, and how can you purchase seafood that may be eaten raw?

"Sushi" or "sashimi-grade" are common terms used to identify seafood considered "ready to be eaten raw". However, there is no official, regulated standard for these terms. Many seafood lovers prefer the delicate textures and flavors of raw seafood found in sushi and sashimi dishes. So how can you enjoy sushi with less risk?

Considerations for Choosing Raw Seafood

The FDA cautions against consuming seafood raw, as it can harbor parasites, bacteria, and viruses that could potentially make consumers sick. According to the FDA, superfreezing seafood in a commercial sub-zero storage freezer helps ensure parasites are destroyed, and that is required for many species of seafood to be consumed raw. When it comes to consuming raw fish one note is that it's best to focus on saltwater (marine) fish since many freshwater fish are susceptible to tapeworms. The full FDA guidance can be found here.

Buy your seafood from a trusted source such as All of our seafood is chef-selected for quality and freshness, but it is not all suitable to be eaten raw without further preparation. The FDA Food Code exempts wild Ahi Tuna species from the superfreezing requirement. It also, exempts aquaculture (farmed) fish, like salmon or kanpachi given verification that the feed it's raised on is parasite-free.
