Steamer Clams, sometimes called Ipswich, are soft shelled clams with a sweet ocean flavor and are more tender than hardshell clams like cherrystones, or littlenecks.  Steamer clams are about 2 inches in diameter, and their shells are very thin and easily broken, which is why they are called soft shells. Due to the sweet taste and tender meat, steamers are excellent in clam chowder.

  • Our Steamer clams are harvested along the New England coast and delivered live.
  • Steamer clam stocks aren't depleted or experiencing overfishing.
  • Our steamer clams are semi-purged in salt water to get the majority of the sand off, but we recommend soaking them in salted water in the fridge for 20 minutes before cooking.
