The Wellfleet Petite oyster beds in Cape Cod became depleted in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Smart locals placed a small quantity of oysters from the Chesapeake Bay area in local estuaries as seed stock. As anticipated, oysters once again flourished in the waters off Cape Cod!
